Haburi

When individuals suffer intense negative emotions, spirits take control, slowly destroying their souls to the point where even purification rituals are ineffective—this is known as the death phase. Those in the death phase attack the living to consume their souls and escape their suffering. Haburi are experts in eliminating the brutalization that leads to this stage. The Saikawa clan serves as Haburi in Saijou city. Saikawa Hitsugi, a member of the clan, wishes to follow in his father’s footsteps, who was a revered Haburi using a blade known as a Guillotine (Girochin) knife. After learning the true nature of his family’s role, Hitsugi’s simple life is disrupted. Carrying emotional scars and the Girochin on his back, he continues his family’s work as a high school student, engaging in deadly battles as part of the Haburi’s grim duties.
