Two brothers, Ravelin and Jenkin, grew up with only one friend, the conceited Stefanne. They were told to avoid the White Flame Lake, a body of water that never freezes and is said to echo with the song of a rare bird. Curious about the source of the bird's melody, Ravelin ventures into the surrounding forest. However, an ominous event occurs, drastically altering the course of both brothers' lives.
