Haru is the eldest daughter of the financially struggling Kogome family, once respected but now in decline. To restore the family's reputation, she needs to marry a wealthy man. Her recent engagement arrangement with Warrant Officer Narihira Hishii is her final opportunity to secure such a union. Unexpectedly, Narihira is instantly smitten and proposes to her right away.
