Maruko Juri frequently changed schools due to her father's job, preventing her from forming lasting connections except with two boys she referred to as A-kun and B-kun. A-kun, in particular, left a deep impression on her and had promised to propose to her seven years later before she had to leave. Now in high school, Juri has returned to the city where she met them after her father's latest transfer. On her first day at the new school, a boy unexpectedly embraces her in front of the class and asks her out. He is identified as B-kun, but he now introduces himself as A-kun. Confused, Juri wonders what has happened to the A-kun she once knew and what B-kun means when he says he is no longer here. The story follows Juri as she navigates this mystery and the possibility of rekindling a past relationship or finding a new one.
