A man named Inoue Showa travels to a village in Hokkaido during World War II and works as an assistant to a man named Masao Mimatsu, who observes and protects a rapidly forming mountain called Showa Shinzan. The account of Mimatsu's efforts to monitor the mountain is based on a real-life story.
