Noriko lives with her older brother in an apartment, as their parents are absent from the story. Her brother is a writer and illustrator of children's books, overseen by his professional and attractive boss, Yoko, whom Noriko looks up to. At school, Noriko's teacher is a relaxed and approachable woman known to students as Sanae-chan. Among her friends are Mika and a half-Japanese girl with an unusual way of speaking. The manga presents these characters and relationships in a 4-panel format, focusing on the ordinary moments of Noriko's daily life.
