A retelling of Egyptian mythology grounded in the way Egyptians read their world as a contest between disorder and order, framed by a sun that both scorches and sustains and a Nile that both drowns the land and feeds it. Ra, god of the sun, defeats chaos and founds order on the blood of what he has slain, but that same order hardens into a constraint on its maker, and the divine throne it supports is steadily tainted by conflict and killing. At the heart of the system he built, the goddess Ma'at turns to Ra with a single question: what is your order?
