Hoshi no ko Chobin

A small, humorous being named Chobin ends up stranded after his home planet is taken over by the oppressive forces led by Brunga, a demonic character wearing a dark coat and bat-like wings. The story was first published in 1974 but wasn't compiled into a collected volume until 1999.
