An overnight worldwide blackout strips humanity of electricity and forces inventor Ori Kenshi to abandon the quiet rhythm he had built for himself amid the mountains of Okutama. A reclusive mechanical prodigy more at ease with gears than with people, Kenshi had been earning a modest income by hand-building intricate contraptions and replica weapons inspired by anime in his small workshop. The same night the grid fails, a meteor crashes into his garden, and he idly carves the fragment into a wand to occupy himself. The act reveals an unexpected truth: the meteors that wiped out the world's power systems have also brought magic into the world. With civil order disintegrating and danger spreading, his improvised wand may hold the seed of a new form of strength.
