In ancient Japan, 12,000 years ago, when humans were close to gods, a boy named Takano discovers and raises an abandoned child he calls Tojiko. Seven years later, their village is attacked by Ijin, an invisible and malevolent god. Along with Aohiko, who acts as an older brother to Takano and his friends, they are rescued by followers of the visible god Yagami. The three join forces with them to fight against Ijin. The story portrays a conflict involving gods, deities, and their followers.
