Lyla, a girl ostracized for her foul smell, lives in isolation in a forest cabin after being abandoned by her family. Her solitude is broken when Viorst appears at her door. Unlike others, he shows no revulsion to her scent, claiming he cannot smell at all. Unbeknownst to Lyla, Viorst is a beast drawn to her by an aroma he finds irresistible, despite his own inability to perceive it.
