A young woman from Ohio, Georgie, known as Jo, moves to New York in the late 1920s after securing a job at a newspaper company she had long admired. She is let go the same day she is hired, as it turns out she was mistaken for a man due to her name. Despite this setback, Jo refuses to quit.
