On the island of Opal, home to the world's most colorful birds, a school trains aspiring "Palettes"—individuals capable of transferring color from one object to another to imbue it with new properties. Cello, a student with potential, struggles to control her abilities and faces the risk of failing her first year. She relies on Yoyo, her bird companion, for support.
