Yu, Hide's younger brother, was killed in a railroad crossing accident three years prior. Hide still sees Yu and assumes his mother does as well, since she frequently speaks to him as if he were present. However, Hide's mother continues to act as though Yu has never left, which causes her to become increasingly fixated on him. This fixation isolates Hide further as he struggles to cope with the situation.
