Takeuchi Masami is forced to leave his home after his uncle evicts him following his father’s death. Struggling financially, he temporarily stays at his school until his classmate Kagome Nishino, who has a crush on him, offers help finding housing. She leads him to a low-cost, empty apartment, urging him to move in immediately. Unfurnished and without bedding, the place becomes the setting for unsettling events Takeuchi experiences that night, as Kagome had withheld its reputation as haunted. The next day, Kagome and a teacher seek assistance from Kagome Kusaka, a student with psychic abilities from a lineage of priestesses, who has repeatedly declined involvement with their paranormal research. Upon meeting Takeuchi, Kusaka abruptly agrees to help, believing he holds significance for her, as she feels drawn to him and sees in him a potential to help her escape a burden tied to her powers.
