2009 commemorates the 50th anniversary of Gekiga Koubou's founding, an influential event that contributed to the rise of gekiga in the rental manga industry and helped shape the ongoing popularity of youth and adult manga. In honor of this milestone, the first issues of Kage and Machi are being reissued as a two-volume set. These early works were key in the development of gekiga and the short-story magazine trend. The reprints aim to preserve the original binding, colors, and design. Each set also includes a booklet with commentary from those involved in the original publications, providing insight for modern readers.
