Katherine is left heartbroken when she learns her brother died bravely at the Battle of Waterloo, shattering her hopes of his return to their Hampshire estate. In the aftermath, her uncle's family seizes control of the estate, cutting her off from her inheritance. With no one else to rely on, Katherine seeks assistance from Lord Adam Calthorpe, her brother’s commanding officer.
