An ayakashi once made a habit of testing people's intelligence, offering a wish to those who succeeded and taking their souls from those who failed. A single individual, Hanasaka Ikkyuu, has repeatedly outwitted the ayakashi and used its power to assist others, despite the constant threat to his life. The ayakashi continues to pursue him, determined to claim his soul. Ikkyuu encounters a Yukionna in dire need of aid that only the ayakashi's abilities can provide, raising the question of whether even his sharp mind can overcome this new challenge.
