Kikokugai: The Cyber Slayer

In an alternate future Shanghai ruled by wealth and power, mafia organizations employ Kung Fu experts to control society. These experts are divided into those who focus on internal energy, or qi, and those who develop physical techniques. Qi practitioners can generate powerful energy from their life force, but require extensive training. Physical skill users reach their limits more quickly, leading to a balance between the two groups. This equilibrium is disrupted with the introduction of cybernetics, allowing martial artists to replace body parts with mechanical enhancements, surpassing human limitations. As cybernetic augmentation becomes widespread, the demand for qi masters declines. Kong Taoluo, a former top assassin and qi expert for a major mafia group, was betrayed and presumed dead. He returns to Shanghai seeking vengeance and to find his sister.
