A story personifies calendar-related concepts, including New Year's Day and New Year's Eve. Traditionally, at year's end in Japan, Omisoka and New Year's Day would enter the human world to activate the "gears of time," helping people experience the passing of time. As Japan transitioned from the Showa to Heisei and then Reiwa eras, the significance of New Year's Eve diminished, becoming a symbolic event. New Year's Day, now in human form, works part-time at a convenience store. When the gears of time risk stopping, Omisoka attempts to help New Year's Day recall its original role.
