A young woman from a high society background, who is also an aspiring mystery writer, faces societal expectations to marry a man who has paused his legal career to pursue her. Though she endures his earnestness, she is not yet willing to accept his proposal. Instead, she becomes engrossed in a recent death at the manor, which appears to be a suicide, and decides to investigate it as her first actual murder case.
