A group known as Kotomono possess the ability to alter human brains through their "Testemonial Verse," often appearing non-human and perceiving the world differently. Since their existence became public 27 years ago, efforts have been made to establish peaceful coexistence between humans and Kotomono. Recently, a series of Kotomono-related attacks have occurred nationwide. Mutou Goro, who has been investigating these incidents, discovers that the perpetrator is Maki Narumi, his childhood friend whom he lost contact with six years earlier.
