In 2067, eight years after the events of *Macross Frontier*, a group of skilled idol performers and a squadron of experienced Valkyrie pilots face the Var Syndrome, an enigmatic phenomenon spreading across the galaxy. They also encounter the Aerial Knights, a mysterious Valkyrie fighter team from the Kingdom of Wind.
