Natsuno, a boy enrolling in his high school's art program, finds himself living under the same roof as a classmate named Mashiro after family circumstances force the arrangement. When he comes across a sketchbook she kept during middle school, he reacts with blunt dismissiveness, telling her not to speak to him unless the house is on fire or someone has died. Mashiro, finding him rude and grating, immediately tries to drive him out of her home, yet the forced cohabitation refuses to unravel as cleanly as she would like, leaving the two locked into an uneasy daily routine shaped by art, friction, and the slow erosion of first impressions.
