During the early Shōwa era, Ruri, the daughter of an English father and Japanese mother, lost her parents as a child and now works at a boarding house. She longs to grow up quickly and is lonely. A painter, staying at the same lodging, catches her attention with his relaxed and carefree nature. Ruri begins to enjoy the time she spends with him. The story is presented as a historical romance, illustrated with elegant brushwork.
