Mammoth retrospective anthology, roughly 1,200 pages long, assembled to mark twenty years of the alternative manga magazine Garo. The volume gathers short works contributed by virtually every notable author who had appeared in the magazine up to 1984, including Sanpei Shirato, Shigeru Mizuki, Yoshiharu Tsuge, Tadao Tsuge, Yoshihiro Tatsumi, Hino Hideshi, Seiichi Hayashi, Kazuichi Hanawa, Hiroshi Hirata, Hinako Sugiura, Murasaki Yamada, Genpei Akasegawa, Shigesato Itoi and many more. The selected pieces span gekiga, experimental and avant-garde comics, folkloric tales, horror, autobiography and absurdist humour, offering a cross-section of the underground and art-comics scene that Garo cultivated during its first two decades.
