Kataoka and Sato have been childhood friends. Kataoka possesses an exceptional sense of hearing, which he finds overwhelming due to Sato's loud voice. As teenagers, Sato joins the school newspaper club, while Kataoka withdraws from social interaction. When the club investigates rumors of the supernatural, Sato persuades Kataoka to use his heightened hearing to help uncover the truth.
