Marian, a duchess, saves a man who has lost his memory. They grow close and promise to remain together. After spending their first night together, he vanishes while running an errand to purchase a ring. Feeling lost, Marian travels to the royal capital at her mother's suggestion. There, she encounters Prince Rufus, who looks very much like the man she loves. The prince has the same scar as Marian's lost love, but he appears to have no recollection of her.
