A young girl with a lizard-like tail, known as a Dhuatara, lives with her mother in the desert expanse of a barren planet. Niki is taken from restricted sacred lands by a man in blue robes from the Mikenai Temple named Henri. Soon after, individuals referred to as Dhuatara hunters arrive. The story portrays the development of this half-human girl in a fantastical setting.
