Nyx no Lantern
ニュクスの角灯
In 1878, during a period of Western influence in Japan, a girl named Miyo works at a Nagasaki curio shop known as Vingt. Orphaned during the Satsuma Rebellion, she is drawn to the shop's unique items, such as dresses, sewing machines, and binoculars, brought back from the Paris Exhibition by the shop's owner, Momotoshi. Miyo uses her clairvoyant abilities, which she has had since childhood, while gaining experience in her work. The narrative explores her evolving emotions toward Momotoshi and reveals aspects of his past. The manga reflects the vibrant setting of Nagasaki, a city bustling with merchants and other inhabitants, and integrates historical details and facts about antiques through supplementary columns. The author’s research contributes to the work's realistic atmosphere. It has received recognition, including the 21st Japan Media Arts Excellence Award and the Grand Prize at the 24th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.
