A shy and gentle vase painter from Ancient Greece, Demetrios, avoids sports and contests but is pressured to create a game to help his village compete against a neighboring town's mayor. While taking refuge in a large vase outside his workshop, a bolt of lightning hits the vase, transporting him to Tokyo, Japan, during the 1964 Summer Olympics.
