Eil from the village of Albat is an apprentice hunter who dislikes drawing attention. At age fifteen, he undergoes the Ceremony of Determination to become an adult and is found to have the "Talent for Megane." Confused by the term, he slowly uncovers the many hidden abilities of his glasses. He remarks that the glasses might allow him to conquer the world, though he has no intention of doing so. Eil's life takes an unusual turn as he begins to navigate the strange powers associated with his megane.
