Margaret, a northerner, is deeply in love with Squall, a man from the south, despite the ongoing conflict between their regions. Her love is shattered when Squall betrays her, throwing her from a seaside cliff. As she nears death in the water, a witch’s voice grants her a second chance, though it will take seven years for her to return, reborn and voiceless. Upon awakening by the sea, she finds assistance from Jack, an apothecary, but faces resistance from the southern villagers who remain wary of her presence as an outsider.
