A girl named Kotoko discovers a boy who has collapsed and is injured. She helps him and in return asks that he spend her birthday with her. She lives by herself since her father has died. Despite this, she maintains a smile. The boy she rescued seems unusual, as he appears able to perceive things beyond normal human perception. Uncertainty remains about his fate and whether he will accept her request or continue to live in isolation, as he has since birth.
