A Trainer named Soul tries to catch a wild Sentret but fails due to inexperience. Another Trainer arrives and assists by weakening the Pokémon, allowing Soul to successfully capture it. He then attempts to catch a Bellsprout, but his Cyndaquil accidentally defeats it. With further help, Soul captures a wild Growlithe. Before leaving for a new area, the Trainer teaches him about fishing for Pokémon, time-based appearances, and using Headbutt on trees to find others. They are interrupted by a Steelix, which Cyndaquil struggles to defeat. The Trainer gives Soul a Heavy Ball, made from Apricorns by Poké Ball maker Kurt, which is effective against heavy Pokémon. Soul uses Flamethrower to weaken the Steelix and successfully captures it. He declares his goal of completing the Pokédex.
