Rei is placed with his father's family, the Glamis, after his mother's death. The family is part of the British aristocracy, and Rei is sent to a boarding school. His stepbrother Edward, who is in charge of the household and serves as the school's prefect, had once been affectionate toward Rei but now treats him with distance. Edward informs Rei that he will have to return to Japan after Edward graduates.
