A child is born during a violent war, his mother dying in childbirth. From him emerges a massive, shadowy dragon that destroys the land. A resourceful knight imprisons the infant in a dark cage, where he is raised in isolation by a female tutor. As he matures into a young man, he remains unaware of the outside world until a sudden assault by the Shadows occurs.
