In a country that annually hosts a "Lady Ranking" to determine the most beautiful and intelligent young woman, who then receives a goddess's blessing, Meriel Forster, a duke's daughter and granddaughter of the legendary saint Beatrice, fails to rank highly. Shy and unassuming, Meriel is disheartened when her engagement to the second prince is ended. Beatrice reaches out to her, and after a specific event, their minds are exchanged.
