Mira, raised in an orphanage, has the ability to absorb magic and was compelled by Baron Weston, her father-in-law, to purify contaminated weapons and magical items. This process severely damaged her body, with doctors predicting she had less than a year to live. After collapsing at a temple, she is rescued by Annalise, a woman who offers to help Mira escape the baron. Annalise’s brother, Darius, is the first duke and leader of the Order of the Holy Knights, and he suffers from hypermagia, a serious illness. Annalise suggests a method to cure Darius in exchange for Mira’s freedom.
