A Ryukyuan boy from a fallen noble family struggles in poverty, resorting to theft to survive during the waning years of the shogunate. He learns of a hidden treasure left by a famous pirate, said to be powerful enough to disrupt Japan. After being falsely accused of a crime by Satsuma samurai, he is drawn into a violent conflict over the treasure.
