A girl named Alice attends a high school that trains students to become princesses, with the goal of one day becoming the next Briar Rose and following a prince along the Royal Road. As a child, she made a promise with a boy who vowed to be her prince, though she no longer remembers his name or appearance. At school, she meets two upperclassmen—Subaru, who appears kind, and Kyouya, who is more distant. Both are paired with Alice to help her train for her future role. As she progresses, conflicts arise, including jealousy and schemes that complicate her path. She must navigate these challenges while trying to uncover the identity of the boy from her past.
