Shikeisyu 042

A prisoner labeled 042 is selected for an experiment testing whether death row inmates can be reintegrated into society. A microchip is implanted in him, programmed to detonate if he experiences anger that could lead to violence. He is assigned as a janitor at a co-ed high school, where he is monitored by scientists led by Dr. Shiina. The narrative follows 042’s challenges in adapting to a society that rejects him. Over time, he influences several individuals, who in turn affect him. The story raises the question of whether the experiment succeeded and if a convicted serial killer can be reformed and accepted back into society.
