Students at Utrea Academy train to become Spirit Mages, who combat threats by contracting spirits. Roak Aleas is among the top-ranked students in his year, yet he has never summoned a contracted spirit. This has led others to believe he is concealing his true abilities. In reality, Roak has no contracted spirits to call upon. His power comes entirely from rigorous training in swordsmanship and martial arts, aided only by a micro-spirit. Despite the assumption that he is holding back, he fights with all his strength just to survive.
