A third-grade boy named Shota Aikawa has a pet beetle that undergoes metamorphosis from a larva to a pupa and then transforms into a human. The story follows the Aikawa family as they experience humorous events involving the beetle, who aspires to become a king. A one-shot titled *Shinrin Shuugosha Moriking* is included in the second volume.
