Sumyeongsa

In the Joseon Dynasty, the people of Hamkyung province faced extreme poverty and hunger. A rumor spread that someone in the woods was purchasing people's "life threads," and those who sold them died prematurely. Sul-Li, a fisherman's daughter, is concerned for her younger brother, as all the men in her family died young at sea. She hears about the "life-threader" and considers the idea that if one can buy a life thread, one might also sell it. Ha-Wol, who buys life threads for Dong-I, a Taoist fairy turned human, encounters Sul-Li and recognizes her as a potential savior for Dong-I. Ha-Wol then offers Sul-Li a deal she cannot refuse.
