Susume! Hakubishin

Written by the rising creator behind Hana Yondan to Issho, this work traces the difficulties faced by a manga artist across the years surrounding World War II. The story opens in 1933, as Japan leaves the League of Nations and the Nazis take power in Germany. Struggling cartoonist Shin Hakubi stakes everything on Buchineko Yondou Suhei, a send-up of Norakuro Joushouhei, and the parody happens to land just as the country's mood turns toward war, carrying him somewhere no one anticipated.
