Mei Takigawa, the daughter of a renowned forger who has recently died, visits the estate of Duke Ranswell to reclaim a brooch that her father created. The duke agrees to return the item to her, but with a condition: Mei must pretend to be his fiancée until he travels to Japan. During this time, she is expected to act accordingly and maintain the illusion of their engagement.
