The dying Crown Prince of Daqi, Feng Jin Yan, is given a final chance at life through a ritual conducted by the chaplain, Wu Nian. The emperor hopes to recover his ailing son from the afterlife. However, the ritual results in the return of Feng Wu Yu, a ruthless prince from 900 years prior. Distraught, the emperor begs Wu Nian to restore his gentle prince, but she insists the crown prince is not physically harmed, only mentally altered, and claims she can heal him. In reality, she secretly views the prince's ancient soul as a valuable ingredient for a tonic, finding amusement in the thought.
