A boy named Wajima Takeru, who has a strong affection for dogs, visits an animal shelter and is drawn to a dog that is unresponsive and uninterested in play. According to shelter staff, this dog behaves differently from others. Unbeknownst to Takeru, the dog is a reincarnation of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes, whom Takeru names Sherdock. While no one else can hear the dog speak, Takeru can, and the dog’s intellectual abilities remain as sharp as ever. Takeru acts as a companion and assistant, helping Sherdock apply his keen powers of observation and deduction to solve various crimes in the city.
