A fictional account of the 7th-century CE journey of the Tang Dynasty diplomat Wang Xuance is depicted, as he travels from China to the Empire of Harsha in India. Upon encountering a weakened and now hostile empire, he flees to Tibet and forms an alliance of Tang, Nepalese, and Tibetan troops to launch a military campaign against the Empire of Harsha.
